730 Daily Self Portraits
Surface Gallery
Nottingham
November 29th - December 14th 2024
I've been creating daily self portraits every day since January 1st 2021. 730 Daily Self Portraits is an exhibition of the first two years of this ongoing project.
The series of daily self portrait drawings and paintings started when I was feeling particularly uninspired to create new work, so I decided to set myself a challenge to create a self portrait every day for a month. This then extended to three months, six months, one year and finally the project settled into an ongoing daily practice extending well beyond the original month’s plan.
Opening event: Friday 29th November, 18:00 - 21:00
Exhibition: 30th November - 14th December

May 2017
Through painting, drawing and photography Poor Network Connection explored the realities of a long distance relationship in the digital age. The majority of the works were based off of screenshots while video calling my partner, distorted in a similar manner to how the screen glitches and interrupts us.
Does It Matter?

April 2016
Does It Matter? explored gender and its significance in contemporary society and to open people’s minds to the concept of gender as fluid. I was intrigued by how frustrated people can become as they attempt to identify the gender of someone who presents themselves androgynously; the intention of the my work is to create a sense of ambiguity which causes the audience to make assumptions about the genders of the characters but then ultimately ask does it matter?
